Picture
A girl dressed in pink sits on a green playground object, her face turned up toward the camera. Her cheeks are chubby and her hair is brown. She has a blue sticker on her jacket. She is wondering why her picture is being taken. The confusion can be seen in her eyes. Her hands seem unsure, not really in any solid position. Shallow depth of field is used in this picture as well as contrast between the bright colors. There are a few differnt leading lines. There is a small blur in the edges of the frame. This image is similar to one of Steve McCurry's pictures because of its use of color and the portrait style of the child. It focuses on the child and blurs (sort of) the rest of the background. It embraces young fun.
Picture
Balboa Park is shown from behind a small cafe table with a red umbrella. There are pedestrians, tables, and a bus filling the foreground. A grand building with a colorful flag stands in the background. The bustle of the plaza seems small next to the grandeur of the building. The modern elements seem out of place when compared to the old architecture. the table seems to be a pocket of calm amid the business of the square. Leading and implied lines are seen in the picture. We can also find juxtaposition and contrast. Therea re also horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines. This photo was taken in imitation of Steve McCurry's style. It uses a lot of vibrant color. The image focuses on a piece of architecture that seems different or foreign. It utilizes framing.
Picture
A girl wearing a blue dinosaur sweater looks off to the side, with one hand up to the side of her head. A green tree flourishes behind her. Her hair is black with an orange tint. She seems like she is about to laugh at something we cannot see. Her sweater suggests a happy and playful personality. Her hands suggest elegance. There is contrast in this picture and some shallow depth of field. We see leading lines in her arm and curved lines in her hair. Her eyes draw an implied line across the left side of the portrait. This photo imitates the style of Steve McCurry. It uses bright, happy colors and focuses on one person. It utilizes shallow depth of field.
Picture
A boy in orange shorts climbs on a green play structure. Sunlight cuts the picture on two in the bottom left corner. A tree grows in the background. The boy looks as though he is on a serious mission. He is exited to reach the top. A lot of diagonal lines add energy and excitement to the picture. There are leading lines and contrast. Expansive depth of field is utilized. The playful and adventurous nature of children is an underlying theme.  I imitated Steve McCurry's style in this picture by focusing on a single subject. I took advantage of the bright colors in the scene. I tried to think about McCurry's collection of children at play when I took this picture. A looking up perspective is used.
Picture
A statue of a man astride a horse holding a flag is silhouetted against a cloudy blue sky, Palm trees are visible in the corners. It looks as though the picture was taken in color and certain portions were put in black and white. The sky is deep and contemplating. The statue looks like it is calling you to get up and do something. The trees add interest. Silhouette is used in the image. There is also contrast and lines. The diagonal line adds energy This image mimics the style of Steve McCurry in many ways. It focuses on a single subject and has strong contrast. Also, this image has some color in the background. The subject is a monument, something that McCurry photographed occasionally.

Everyone is familiar with the photograph that made Steve McCurry famous. The image of the Afghan Girl is a picture that aroused interest and concern in the West for the conflict going on in Afghanistan and still evokes deep emotions from viewers today. Known as "The First World's Third World Mona Lisa," this image became one of the most famous National Geographic covers when it was featured in its June 1895 issue.
Picture
For many years, her identity remained a mystery until McCurry returned to Afghanistan in early 2002. She was found through aid of iris recognition. Her name is Sharbat Gula. She now lives in a remote part of Afghanistan with her husband and her three daughters. She and McCurry still keep in touch.

When McCurry began as a photographer, he was greatly influenced and inspired by the works of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, Eugene Smith, Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans, and André Kertész. He adopted their technique of wandering, exploring, and waiting, or as McCurry himself put it, "watching life as it unfolds." He realized his calling as a photographer in Mexico when he took this picture.
Picture
He found the irony and juxtaposition profound. This moment and the time following greatly influenced his decision to travel and take pictures. He gives this advice to beginning photographers: "When you start looking and slowing down, there are all sorts of wonderful things that you see which you would miss otherwise."
